Civil Engineering

Distance Education

K-State CE offers graduate-level courses leading to a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Transportation Engineering Graduate Certificate to off-campus students residing both in and out of the United States. All courses needed for the degree are offered online. Students pursuing a M.S. in civil engineering travel to K-State only once at the end of their program for an oral examination, which is conducted by their graduate committee.

All students must either apply for admission to the Graduate School or request to enroll as a nondegree student.

Degree-Seeking Students

Admission with full standing requires that the applicant meet the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above for the last 60 hours of courses taken

Note: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) provides supplementary information that will be considered in the admissions process. GRE scores are not mandatory for candidates holding a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution in the U.S. The GRE is required for all other candidates. Minimum standing on the GRE in the quantitative category must be at the 80th percentile or higher. Students with degrees from foreign institutions may be required to take the TOEFL or equivalent examination to determine proficiency in English.
