Vicki Scharnhorst serves as the Operations Manager for Tetra Tech in Denver, Colorado. Tetra Tech, a leading provider of consulting and engineering services, has 20,000 employees globally.  The company supports government and private sector clients by providing services focused on water, energy, environment, infrastructure, resource management and international development.

Scharnhorst graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University and received a master’s degree in Public Administration and Policy from American University.  She attended the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and is a registered engineer in four states. 

Scharnhorst has managed operations in excess of 175 personnel, and managed large water resources projects and programs valued at over $2.7B.  She’s performed work in federal, state and municipal-government sectors and performed private-sector projects and program management.   Scharnhorst currently leads the firm’s work on the Wild Horse Dam and Reservoir Project ― a proposed 90,000 acre-foot water storage reservoir for the City of Aurora, CO.  Prior to this position, Ms. Scharnhorst led the Tetra Tech Mine Studies & Consulting Group where she directed a group of metallurgists, resource geologists, mine engineers, mineral economists, engineers and scientists with responsibility for operations, strategy, financial performance, marketing/visibility and business development for projects around the globe.  

Formerly with MWH (now Stantec), Scharnhorst’s career included the following positions:   Senior VP/Program Management Development with the Business Solutions Group;  Chief Operating Officer for MWH Federal Services;  Deputy Program Manager for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program; Florida Regional Manager for Municipal & State Services; President, MW Michigan;  and Las Vegas Regional Manager.  While at MWH, Scharnhorst co-lead a team to pursue and win two design build projects for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department:   Department-Wide Instrumentation Control & Computer System ( $284M); and Water Works Park II Water Treatment Facility ($275M).  

She has served on the City of Boulder (Colorado) Water Resources Advisory Board, the Greenways Advisory Committee and the KSU Engineering Advisory Council and Civil Engineering Advisory Council.  Scharnhorst and her husband, Brent Johnson, a K-State graduate in Milling Science (BS, 1982) and in Agribusiness (MAB, 2012), reside in Boulder, Colorado, where they strive to enjoy nearly everything the outdoors has to offer. Together they have four children.
