Guidelines for Applying
US Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Distance Learning
- Application Form. This form can be submitted online or printed and mailed with other supporting documents. When
applying on-line make sure you print out the confirmation receipt, sign and return to the CE Dept.
- Statement of Objectives - give specific reasons for selecting your field of study, contemplated research areas
and professional plans. It is important that you indicate one of the following fields of specialization as your major
area of study: 1) Environmental; 2) Geotechnical; 3) Structures; 4) Transportation; or 5) Water Resources.
- Official transcript of all colleges attended.
- Three letters of recommendation are required and must be printed on letterhead. At least two letters must be from
faculty members with whom you had taken class(es). You can also use your employer as a reference. The letters
should state your qualifications for graduate study.
- $40 Application Fee. Can pay by credit card if applying on-line or can send money order or personal check, if from a
US bank, must be payable to KSU Graduate School. The university does not permit us to waive the fee regardless of
the circumstances.
All applicants will receive an email confirming that we received your application and give you a reference number with a
website where you can enter your reference number to check the status of your application. If there are ANY documents that
are missing from your application, your application will not be evaluated until all documentation has been received. If your
application says complete then you do not need to send any more documentation.
International Students

- Affidavit of Financial Support. To save any delays it would be best to have all three sections filled out appropriately
right away. Fill out the sections, in no way, will affect the chances of getting any financial assistance. This form has nothing to
do with the department's decision of giving support; it is a required form for the Graduate School. No certificates of

- TOEFL score (550 paper-based/213 computer-based or higher).
- GRE score (80% or higher, Quantitative Portion).
