Associate Professor (July 2004 – present)
Assistant Professor (July 1998 – July 2004)
- Instructing courses in water resources engineering and engineering mathematics.
- Collaborating with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary, integrated understanding of coupled human/natural systems associated with groundwater, with emphasis on understanding system response in the High Plains region.
- Serving the state and national/international community by providing scientific support for management/policy decisions related to groundwater.
University of Maine, Orono
Post-Doctoral Research Associate (September 1997 –May 1998)
- Developed computer software for CGWAVE, a two-dimensional finite element program that models surface water waves in coastal regions. Project funded by ONR and administered by U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers.
- Directed the research of three Ph.D. and three M. S. students during their advisor’s leave of absence.
University of Minnesota
Research Assistant (1989 – 1994)
- Designed and implemented computer software for the new program CZAEM (Capture Zone Analytic Element Model). This program allows prediction of portions of an aquifer that must be protected to prevent contamination of wells. Project funded by EPA.
- Examined the effects of transient variations in groundwater flow on contaminant transport. Project funded by LCMR (Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources).
Teaching Assistant (1991 - 1996)
- Lectured, graded and conducted office hours.
- Represented CE Department during Pre-Academic International Teaching Assistant Program; introduced international graduate students to the culture of classrooms at the University of Minnesota, and helped prepare them for English proficiency examinations.
Post-Doctoral Research Associate (April 1997 – August 1997)
- Developed computer models of three-dimensional, variable density groundwater flow. Project funded by EPA.
- Directed research of two M.S. students during their advisor’s sabbatical leave.
David R. Steward Consulting
GeoScience Groundwater Consultant (1991 – present)
- Developed computer software for MLAEM (Multi-Layer Analytic Element Model). This program has been used to model regional groundwater flow throughout the world. Funded by RIZA, Netherlands.
- Developed 3DFlow, a computer program that simulates three-dimensional groundwater flow.
- Assisting regional engineering firms with groundwater consultation.
UNISYS/Sperry Corporation: Executive Software Development
System Programmer (1983 – 1989)
- Acted as team lead: interfaced with management, maintained schedules, and helped other team members with technical problems.
- Designed computer software for handling hardware faults and for testing security.
